![]() The volunteers and workers are very friendly and informative. There's so much information packed in about the fossils and the history of the site. I'm so glad we stopped here! This was such an interesting place. You could have all meals there and not cook at all if you want. The restaurant is unexpectedly wonderful. We did the Haystack Steak Cookout which was fun - riding a hay wagon up to the Cheyenne Butte and eating a steak dinner open air in a beautiful setting. We didn't get to see a play because we waited too long to buy tickets, but I understand that the plays at the Post Playhouse are phenomenal. The jeep tour is very fun, and very adventurous. It will help you plan the rest of your visit. In addition to telling the history of the fort, you'll also learn about the other activities and what buildings are open for visiting. I recommend taking the train tour on your first day. In addition to the campgrounds, you can rent most of the old officer quarters and barracks. There are numerous activities on the fort, and lots of family reunions were happening here. The Spotted Tail campground is more shady, and sites there have electric only. The only complaint I had was no shade, although the older sites in the middle of the campground are shaded. ![]() The campground was wonderful - concrete site, perfectly level, full hook ups, we had a picnic table and a grill. Everything you need is within easy walking or biking distance. You could easily fill 3 or 4 days with activities in the state park or immediate vicinity. ![]() This is not only a wonderful campground, it is a wonderful destination. ![]()
